The important aspects of roughing are as follows:
- Spot drilling — Aids later drill operations and is set with the Spot drill attribute at machine-level or feature-level. If you have selected Attempt chamfer w/ spot, then the chamfer operation may be combined with this operation if the tool has the correct angle and size.
- Pilot drilling — Is enabled by setting the Pilot drill attribute. How pilot drilling is performed is influenced by Chip break/Deep hole and similar settings.
