Stock motion simulation (PartMaker)

Use PartMaker/SwissCAM's stock motion simulation feature to verify the motion of the headstock as it moves through the guide bushing. This is useful when programming using CNC Swiss-type lathes or sliding headstock lathes.

The stock motion simulation feature is available from the Tool Path Verification Options dialog, which is displayed when you select Part Features > Verify Every Tool Path:

Note: The Stock Motion Simulation option is available only when programming toolpaths on the main spindle in a Turn Face window.

When the Stock Motion Simulation option is:

  • deselected, PartMaker shows a fixed headstock-representation of the part, with tools moving both the Z and X axes. This type of simulation is useful for verifying the geometry of the toolpath.
  • selected, PartMaker shows the stock moving in the Z-axis and shows cutting tools as fixed in the Z-axis to simulate the motion of the headstock as it moves through the guide bushing. This type of simulation is useful for verifying:
    • The geometry of the toolpath.
    • The tool offsets.
    • The length of the retract does not exceed the length of the guide bushing when the tool retracts into the guide bushing, for example during threading and rough turning. You can set the length and OD of the guide bushing shown during the simulation on the Turning Setup dialog in PartMaker/SwissCAM.
