Profile groups for 4-Axis strategies (PartMaker)

When using the Profile Group Parameters dialog for a 4-Axis strategy, the following settings are available:

Strategy — Select the machining strategy to be performed: 2 Axis, 2 Axis & Taper, or 4 Axis.

Tool Position — Select the position of the wire relative to the profile curve: Left or Right.

Cutting Technology

  • Material Properties — Click to display the Select Material dialog, where you can select the material to be used for this group.
  • Number of Skim Cuts — Select the number of skim cuts for this group.
  • Alternate Pass Direction — Select this option to alternate the direction of cutting for skim cuts. All passes start at the start point and burn to the end point. Selecting Alternate Pass Direction starts at the start point and burns to the end point and then from there, burns back to the start point. This saves time in cutting the wire and repositioning to the start point
  • C> — Click to display the Cycles Data dialog
  • Cycle —Click for PartMaker to automatically select a cycle from the Cycles database according to the Material Properties and the Number of Skim Cuts selected.

First Curve

  • Top — Select this option if the first curve is on the top. If the First Curve is on Top, and the Distance Btw Curves (D) is smaller than the height of the part, then the land is on the bottom of the part.

  • Bottom — Select this option if the first curve is on the bottom. If the First Curve is on Bottom, and the Distance Btw Curves (D) is smaller than the height of the part, then the land is on the top of the part.

  • Distance Btw Curves (D) — Enter the distance between curves.

Leads — Click the Leads button to display the Leads dialog, where you can control the movement of the tool as it:

  • Approaches the stock before starting a cutting move (Leads In).
  • Leaves the stock at the end of a cutting move (Leads Out).

PartMaker creates Lead In and Lead Out moves when a profile group is created.
