Media Icons and Selection Reference

Media Thumbnail Icons

Icons can appear over a clip in the Desktop Reels, Freeform view, and within the Media Panel so their content can be assessed at a glance.

Icon Description
The selected source.
A sequence currently selected as the source.
A sequence.
A sequence opened in the Timeline.
An opened sequence which appear in the Sequence tab of the Player and Timeline. The brighter red colour helps distinguish between an opened sequence and the current sequence.
A locked clip. The icon can appear over other icons such as the source and sequence icons.
A clip with multiple versions coming either from Open Clip or Pattern Browsing.
A clip rendered with Clip History.
A clip with a note on it. The icon does not appear in the Media Panel.



Media Selection Colour Coding

Clips on the Desktop or the Viewing panel are displayed with a coloured border based on the type of selection and the media type.

Border Description
Unselected clips have no border.
The primary selected clip has a yellow border. Operations that can be applied to only one clip are applied to this clip even when multiple clips are selected.
The secondary clips have a grey border. Operations that can be applied to multiple clips are applied to these clips.
The current sequence has a red border when it is not selected.
The current source clip has a green border when it is not selected.
The last rendered clip has an orange border when it is not selected.
Selected ganged clips have their information such as the name displayed in green.
Unselected ganged clips have their information such as the name displayed in yellow.
Note: When the selection is made from the Media Panel, the yellow border appears in the Media panel selection and the clip on the Desktop or the Viewing panel is bordered in grey, regardless of the media type.



Timeline Colour Coding

On the timeline, different colours indicate different type of segments.

Segment Display Description
Explicitly Selected The segments that were clicked on to be selected.
Implicitly Selected When no segment is explicitly selected, the segment under the positioner's focus is implicitly selected.
Video An unselected video segment.
Audio An unselected audio segment.
Video Container A video container.
Matte Container A matte container.
Audio Container An audio container.
Unlinked Video A segment with unlinked video, meaning the link to the source media has been broken.
Unlinked Audio A segment with unlinked audio, meaning the link to the source media has been broken.
Batch FX A video segment with a Batch FX applied.
Gap Batch FX A gap with a Batch FX applied.
Gap Timeline FX A gap with a Timeline FX applied.
Gap Subtitle FX A gap with a Subtitle Timeline FX applied. These segments are usually located on a Subtitle track.
Gap HDR FX A gap with an HDR Timeline FX applied.
Connected Segment A segment connected across multiple sequences.

These colours can be modified using the table in the Segment Display section of the Timeline User Preferences.




Media Cache Status for Clips

Clips provide a granular status of their media cache. There are four cache statuses, available from any list view under the Cached column, or from the icon on the actual clip or timeline segment.

Cache Status Icon Description
Uncached No frame of the clip is cached, and no caching operation has been requested for this clip.
Pending Backburner has been asked to cache the clip's media, but has not started the caching process yet.
Caching The clip's media is being cached, frame by frame.
Cached Every frame of the clip is now cached.
Note: As a clip is being cached, the mention Pending Cache is overlaid on frames not yet cached in the Player.
