Local Network Access (macOS)

Apple implemented a security feature in macOS 15 (sequoia) that restricts applications from accessing certain network sub systems. This may hinder the proper functioning of Flame Family products and services in some situations.

Users can manually grant these permissions via the macOS System Settings application.

Enabling Local Network Access

macOS 15 and newer

  1. Open the macOS System Preferences panel.
  2. Select the Security & Privacy section.
  3. Navigate to the Privacy tab.
  4. Navigate to the Local Network section.
  5. Grant Local Network Access to the following applications and services:
    • Flame
    • Flare
    • Flame Assist
    • ifffsWiretapServer
    • wiretapgateway
Note: The applications or services appear in the Local Network Access section only after being denied network access by macOS.

How to Validate Local Network Access

Upon Application Startup

The application displays a warning if it does not have the necessary Local Network Access to function properly. This warning appears only when macOS denies a network access request from the application.
