Working with Projects from Previous Versions
Opening a Project from a Previous Version
Projects created in an older version than the current one must have their setups converted for them to work in the current version. To open a project created in a previous version:
- From the startup screen, select the All Versions filter at the left of the Project Management window.
- Select a project to open. The version of the application used to create the project appears.
- Click Open.
The Convert Legacy Project to a Compatible Format dialog window appears. Two options are possible: copy or convert.
Converting Legacy Projects
Disable Copy Project to convert the original project to the new version. Once a project has been converted, it cannot be opened in the version in which it was originally created. This option will only be available for projects created with the 2026 release.
By default, for a project originally created in a version older than the 2026 release, the location of the media cache is set to the same file system as the volume of the original project. The conversion of the project creates file system hard links to avoid media duplication. If the original legacy project is deleted, the managed media will be deleted without impacting the converted project.
If the media cache location is set on a different file system than the original project, the managed media is duplicated to the new file system.
Copying Legacy Projects
Enable Copy Project to create a copy of the project while preserving the original. Projects originally created in a version older than the 2026 release can only be copied to the new release.
When a copy of a project is made, the following attributes can be edited:
- Project Name
- Project Nickname
- Project Description
- Project Home
- Setups Directory
- Media Cache
- Cache and Renders
- Proxy Settings
