Attributes

The Attributes menu contains parameters used to modify the look of characters. Each character in a layer can have its own values.



Characters Attributes

Size field

Sets the character size.

Opacity field

Sets the opacity level of a character's fill, underline, and outline.

Italic field

Sets the angle of italicized characters. Positive values make the characters slope to the right. Negative values make them slope to the left.




Spacing Attributes

Tracking field

Sets the amount of spacing between all characters in a paragraph. Positive values increase the spacing. Negative values decrease the spacing.

The Tracking value can also be adjusted using these keyboard shortcuts:

Decrease Tracking by 1 Pixel Meta/Command + Left
Increase Tracking by 10 Pixel Meta/Command + Shift + Right
Decrease Tracking by 10 Pixel Meta/Command + Shift + Left

Kerning field

Sets the amount of spacing between characters. Positive values increase the spacing. Negative values decrease the spacing.

When no character is selected and the cursor is positioned in-between two characters, the value displayed in the Kerning numeric field is the one from the character on the right.

When more than one character is selected, the value displayed in the Kerning numeric field is the one from the first selected character, on the left.

The Kerning value can also be adjusted using these keyboard shortcuts:

Note: The Tracking and Kerning values are cumulative.



General Attributes

Fill Active

Enable to use fill on characters.

Fill Colour

Sets the fill colour of characters.

Underline Active

Enable to underline characters.

Underline Width field

Sets the width of the underline.

Underline Offset Y field

Sets the vertical offset of the underline position.

Outline Active

Enable to apply an outline on characters and underlines.

Outline Colour

Sets the outline colour of characters.

Outline Width field

Sets the width of the outline.

Outline Join option

Select an outline style.

Miter Join Limit field

Sets the maximum length before a miter join turns into a bevel.

Font Case option

Select a font case option to be applied to the selected characters, overriding the case used when the text was entered.

Select: To:
Original Revert back to the original case used when the text was entered.
Uppercase Set all characters to uppercase.
Lowercase Set all characters to lowercase.
Title Caps Set the first character of each word to uppercase.
Small Caps Set the first character of each word to uppercase and all other characters to a shorter version of the uppercase character.


Special

Superscript

Enable to make the character smaller and slightly above the normal line of type.

Subscript

Enable to make the character smaller and slightly below the normal line of type.

Strikeout

Enable to add a horizontal line at the centre of the character to create a crossing effect.

Note: Superscript and Subscript are mutually exclusive.


Mask

Use the Mask parameters to crop a layer and create a wipe or reveal effect. Use the Characters Axis parameters, such as Position X and Position Y, to create a different kind of reveal effect.

Note: Unlike other attributes, the Mask attribute is disabled on new layers.

Direction option

Select whether the Top, Bottom, Left, or Right side of a layer is masked.

Position field

Sets the percentage of the layer that is masked. Animate the channel to create a wipe effect.

Show Line

Enable to display a green line representing the mask inside the viewports.




Background Attributes



Background Active

Enable to add a coloured background to a layer.

Background Colour

Sets the background colour of a layer.

Background Opacity

Sets the opacity level of the background.

Background Radius field

Sets the radius of the Background's corners.

Background Offset X field

Offsets the background position on the X axis.

Background Offset Y field

Offsets the background position on the Y axis.

Background Scale X field

Sets the width of the background. The value is relative to the layer's width.

Background Scale Y field

Sets the height of the background. The value is relative to the layer's height.

Background Outline Active

Enable to apply an outline to the background.

Background Outline Colour

Sets the outline colour of the background.

Background Outline Width

Sets the width of the background outline.

Background Outline Join option

Select an outline style for the background.

Background Miter Limit

Sets the maximum length before a miter join turns into a bevel. Only applicable when the Background Radius is set to 0.0.




Shadow Attributes



Shadow Active

Enable to add a shadow to characters.

Shadow Colour

Sets the shadow colour for all characters in the paragraph.

Shadow Opacity

Sets the opacity level of the shadows for all characters in the paragraph.

Shadow Blur X and Y Amount fields

Sets the amount of gaussian blur to apply to the shadow on a paragraph basis.

Enable the Prop button to apply the changes proportionally on the X and Y axes.

Shadow Axis Transformations

Use the Position, Scale, Shear, and Rotation parameters to adjust the shadow attributes of characters.




Layer Attribute

Layer Width field

Sets the width at which to crop the text within a layer. The text beyond the layer's width is moved to a new line.

Use the Fit Layer Box to Characters function available as a keyboard shortcut and inside a layer's context menu to automatically set the width based on the text.




Paragraph Attributes

Paragraph Justification option

Select an alignment option for a paragraph. The selection applied to the first paragraph of a layer automatically triggers the Layer Axis to change to the same value.

Paragraph Separation field

Sets the space between the selected paragraph and the one above it.

Paragraph Leading field

Sets the space between lines in the selected paragraph.

Paragraph Indent field

Sets the left indentation value for the first line in a paragraph.
