To analyze sight distance

Display sight line, obstruction, and stopping distance information relative to particular points on a component road.

  1. Select a component road. Note: Planning roads are not supported.
  2. Click Analyze Transportation (Sight Distance).
  3. Do the following:
    1. Select stopping sight distance or passing sight distance.
    2. Select the direction of travel you want to analyze: forward or backward.
    3. Select left-side or right-side driving.
    4. If the road has multiple lanes in each direction, select the lane on which you want to perform the analysis. Lane (1) is the lane closest to the road centerline.
    5. If you selected passing sight distance, specify a speed.
    6. Select Road Decorations to include trees, barriers, lamps, and so forth on road median or curb side when checking for sight obstructions.
    7. Select from the offered obstruction types to include in the analysis.
  4. Click Analyze.
  5. When Visual Options appear on the Sight Distance panel, click the items you want to include in your analysis. For more information on the Visual Options, see About Sight Distance Analysis.

To clear the sight analysis from your model, close the Sight Distance panel.

Use the Sight Pin to display sight line, obstruction, and stopping distance information relative to particular points. Click Place Sight Pin, then click in the component road to place sight pins where you want to analyze sight distance.
