About automatic upgrade of design roads and bridges to component roads
Starting with the InfraWorks 2019 release, all existing models will be subject to a mandatory road and bridge upgrade when you open a model and upgrade the model schema to InfraWorks 2019 or a newer version.
About Automatic Conversion
All design roads will be converted to component roads. Design road style tracks will be matched to components in the component road assembly. Component roads offer the full range of design road capabilities, such as Traffic and Mobility Simulation, Profile and Corridor Optimization, and Sight Distance Analysis, in addition to enhanced capabilities provided by component roads.
When a design road is converted to a component road, InfraWorks uses the "track main category," and "group/track name" columns from the design road style to determine which corresponding component road components will be mapped to each track.
- Design road styles within the Street catalog that are configured as a bridge or a tunnel will result in the addition of a design bridge or design tunnel component after conversion.
- The width of each design road style track is preserved.
- InfraWorks attempts to preserve the vertical profile of design road tracks; in most cases, if the design road style track has a height value assigned, InfraWorks will convert the track to a generic shape component with a height value approximating the height of the design road style track.
- Any design road style track that has an inner or outer height specified will be converted to a generic shape component in order to preserve those height values.
- Materials that are mapped to each track in a design road style using the "track top surface category" Track Settings column are preserved when the design road is converted to a component road. However, component roads do not support multiple materials for individual components, therefore "track inner surface category" and "track outer surface category" materials will not be preserved in the conversion process. Instead, the "track top surface category" material will be applied to the entire component after conversion.
- Road decorations will be placed relative to the original design road style track attachment point offset and height.
- Custom profiles and lane markings are not supported. However, lane markings that were created as individual tracks in a design road style will be preserved as generic shape components, although superelevation is not supported for such conversions. Component road lane markings are controlled at the assembly level and are not configurable per component.
Design Road Group/Track Names
Median Group
All Lanes, Emergency Lane, and Roadway tracks will be converted to Median components.
All Barrier, Jersey, Greenspace, and Median tracks will be converted to generic shape components with a height that approximates the track height.
Right Group or Left Group
All Lanes, Emergency Lanes, and Roadway tracks will be converted to Lane, Shoulder, or Generic Shape components, depending on track width. Refer to the table below for more information.
Design Road Style Track Width | Corresponding Component After Conversion | Description |
---|---|---|
track width ≤ 0.25 meters | Generic Shape component | Any Lane, Emergency Lane, or Roadway design road style track with a width less than or equal to 0.25 meters will be converted to a generic shape component in the resulting component road assembly. |
track width > 0.25 meters, ≤ 1 meter | Shoulder component | Any Lane, Emergency Lane, or Roadway design road style track with a width greater than 0.25 meters and less than or equal to 1 meter will be converted to a shoulder component in the resulting component road assembly. |
track width > 1 meter | Lane component | Any Lane, Emergency Lane, or Roadway design road style track with a width greater than 0.25 meters and less than or equal to 1 meter will be converted to a lane component in the resulting component road assembly. |
Median Group, Right Group, and/or Left Group
The following design road style track main categories will be mapped to the following components in the resulting component road assembly:
Design Road Style Track Main Category Name | Corresponding Component After Conversion | Notes |
---|---|---|
Bikeway Sidewalk | Sidewalk | Sidewalk components are assigned 0% Slope and 0.1 meters Depth after conversion. |
Bridge Bridge Fence Curb Tunnel | Generic Shape |
