New features in 2019 releases of Autodesk InfraWorks
2019 Updates: Enhancements and Changes
Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS
Civil Structures
- Add piers to any location along a bridge's length using the right-click context menu.
- Change the number of piers on a bridge without resetting girder attributes for existing girder groups.
- Set the edge of the bridge deck above the roadway surface when using bridge deck assemblies from Autodesk Inventor.
- Set deck continuity at each individual pier.
- Use parametric part assemblies created in Autodesk Inventor as deck and girder components in Autodesk InfraWorks.
- Update an existing bridge in your Revit model that was previously sent to Revit from InfraWorks
- Model and design parametric tunnels in the context of your overall infrastructure design project.
- Send your InfraWorks tunnel to Revit for detailed design.
- Author custom parametric tunnel sections in Autodesk Inventor, for use in Autodesk InfraWorks.
Collaboration
- You can now lock an InfraWorks model from BIM 360 Document Management. This will prevent unwanted syncing to an InfraWorks model. See About BIM 360 and InfraWorks
- Set a 'home position' for your Shared Views. You can also click the Home button in the Autodesk Viewer to return to this view. See About Shared Views.
- We've added a context menu to model tiles for easy management of your local and cloud models from InfraWorks Home.
- Choose whether or not to include Bookmarks with Shared Views. Use them to set locations you can navigate to quickly.
- Choose whether or not to make detailed model data (asset properties) available with a Shared View, so that stakeholders can review specific data about infrastructure assets.
- When opening, publishing or syncing an InfraWorks model with BIM 360, you'll now see both the Account and Project names so that you can more easily choose the correct place for you model.
- Collaborate on InfraWorks models in the cloud using BIM 360 Document Management projects and Shared Views.
- Use BIM 360 Document Management to create, publish, or synchronize a model with different proposals.
- Use Shared Views to collaborate on a visual representation of your model or design online. Using the link you provide, anyone can view, and comment on, the shared view without needing to have InfraWorks installed.
Country Kits
- We've added six country kits (Germany, France, Austria, UK, Sweden, and Norway) for InfraWorks that can be installed as Add-ins via the Autodesk Desktop Connector. See About Country Kits for InfraWorks.

Generic Objects
- Import parametric generic objects that can be placed at any station/offset along a bridge or road.
- Added the ability to toggle on and off the display of generic objects in the component display toggle.
- Added the ability to apply changes from one generic object to another.
- Added the ability to save generic objects as part of the bridge template.
- Added the ability to place generic objects on the terrain.
- Added the ability to view the quantities of generic objects.
- Added the ability to send generic objects to Revit.
- Added the ability to select a generic object from the content picker
- Added the ability to move a generic object using the 3D move gizmo.
- Added the ability to set the domain and component type for generic objects.
- Improved the use of generic objects by placing grips and dimension lines.
Proposals
Roadway Design
- We've released an updated Profile View with enhanced capabilities.
- Edits made to vertical alignments in the model or Profile View do not cause model regeneration until the edits are committed. This feature overrides the default behavior in which every modification to road centerline geometry causes model regeneration.
- InfraWorks now supports importing eight distinct spiral types from Civil 3D.
- Enhanced roadside grading by adding a "Grading Limit" in the Stack panel for a selected grading zone, so that users can adjust limits for each roadside grading zone. See To set the roadside grading method.
- Delayed model regeneration for road design reduces the number of times a model regenerates by allowing the designer to delay regeneration until after edits to a roadway's horizontal and vertical alignment or components are complete.
- The Curve Properties Panel in profile view has always displayed geometric values of a selected vertical curve. Now, values such as K-value can be modified, and immediately reflected on the profile view from the Curve Properties panel.
- Improved spiral curve spiral support for InfraWorks to Civil 3D interoperability. In InfraWorks, users can only create roads with clothoid spiral types. However, if spiral types other than clothoid are imported into InfraWorks from Civil 3D, InfraWorks does maintain those spiral types when the centerline geometry is edited but the spiral types can not be changed. Previously, if the centerline geometry of a road from Civil 3D was edited in InfraWorks, all the spiral types in the road would have been converted to clothoid.
- The spiral type is now displayed in the Spiral In and Spiral Out sections of the Stack when a Spiral-Curve-Spiral is selected
- Starting with this release, all existing design roads will be automatically upgraded to component roads. Design road style tracks will be matched to components in the component road assembly.
- We've consolidated the road modeling tools with this release. Planning roads are for visualization of large networks and component roads are for preliminary engineering. When you bring component roads into Civil 3D for detailed design, you'll notice that the roads includes surfaces and subassemblies.
- Existing ground profiles shown in the Road Profile View are now based on imported terrains and imported assets, such as roads, coverages, etc.
- Drape the road's profile to the terrain from within the Profile View grid.
- Modify vertical curve length from the Curve Properties panel.
Surface Layers
- Added the ability to manage multiple terrain surfaces in the Surface Layers panel. Sub surface layers are now supported. Stack order of subsurface layers can also be managed in the Surface Layers panel.
- Enhanced surface layer order adjustment by dragging and dropping. See Surface Layers.
