About Download Now

Download Now uses the Autodesk Download Manager (DLM), which saves you time by extracting packaged files while they download. DLM also boosts performance through network acceleration techniques.

DLM provides automatic retry, restart, and intelligent error handling during the download session. It allows you to download up to three products concurrently, and you can add an unlimited number of products to the queue.

Downloading and using DLM

When you see the prompt to download DLM, save and run the file called AutodeskDownloadManagerSetup.exe. (Depending on your browser, you may need to double-click this setup file.) Follow the prompt to allow changes to your computer, accept the license and services agreement, and confirm the download location to complete the installation.

While downloading and running DLM, you can use your computer for other tasks. If performance is slow, pause the download and resume later. If you shut down your computer, DLM resumes where it left off. You don't have to start over.

System requirements

DLM is compatible with Internet Explorer version 7 and later. If you use Chrome or Firefox and experience problems with Download Now or Install Now, use Internet Explorer instead.

You can install DLM on the following Windows operating systems with the base service pack:

  • Windows 7 32- or 64-bit Enterprise
  • Windows 8 32- or 64-bit Enterprise
  • Windows 10 32- or 64-bit Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 Server R2 (64-bit)
  • Windows Server 2012 Server R2 (64-bit)
  • Windows Server 2016

DLM requires a minimum display resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

Troubleshooting

  • Changing the download location (basic). DLM allows you to change the download location at the beginning of each new download session. Sometimes you may need to change the location while a product is downloading (for example, if disk space is insufficient). If so, the best practice is to close DLM, reset the location, and start from the beginning.
  • Changing the download location (advanced). Advanced users can manually set the download location by modifying the download.info file. To find the file, enter the following path in Windows Explorer: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk Download Manager. Next, open the download.info file in a text editor such as Notepad. Then modify the string that begins with DefaultDestDir (for example, DefaultDestDir=C:\Autodesk) to specify a new location, and save the file.

Uninstalling DLM

To remove DLM from your computer:

  1. Close DLM.
  2. In the Windows Control Panel, under Programs and Features, choose Uninstall a Program.
  3. Select DLM and click Uninstall.
  4. Enter this path in Windows File Explorer: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk Download Manager
  5. Delete the download.info file.
