To Work with Associative DWG Underlays in Drawings

Annotate and crop associative DWG underlays in .idw and .dwg files.

A drawing view can include associative DWG underlays. The underlay geometry in the drawing file will update associatively to changes in the corresponding Inventor or AutoCAD file. To associatively update changes made in the AutoCAD file in the drawing file, you must first update the DWG underlay in the part file.

To work with a dwg underlay in a drawing view: Right-click in the DWG underlay in the browser and select Include.

  • You can add text and dimensions annotations to the DWG underlay geometry. Annotated text and dimensions update associatively to changes are made in the AutoCAD or Inventor file.
  • Underlay geometry cropped in a part file displays as cropped geometry in a drawing view of the part file.
  • The AutoCAD layer styles and line types are imported into the drawing file and update associatively. Use the Styles Editor to manage the layers and line types as needed.
