Edit ribbon cables

Use Edit Ribbon Cable to change connectivity and the placement of the ribbon cable on the connector, and to edit the basic path. You can also change the ribbon cable ID and the ribbon cable definition to use from the library.

Edit ribbon cables

  1. In the browser, double-click a harness assembly that contains a ribbon cable.
  2. In the browser or graphics window, right-click the ribbon cable to change and select Edit Ribbon Cable.
  3. Make the changes you need to the connectivity:
    • To change the start or end connectors click the appropriate selector button, and click a connector to use.
    • To reverse the direction in which the ribbon cable connects to the connectors, click the outward direction button.
    • To move the ribbon cable conductor one to a different pin, select a different pin from the list.
    • To reverse the direction of the ribbon cable orientation, click Orientation.
  4. Optionally, choose a different ribbon cable definition from the library and change the ribbon cable ID.

To delete, right-click the ribbon cable, and then select Delete from the context menu.

Modify folds in ribbon cables

As the harness design changes, you may need to modify the ribbon cable's position and shape in the assembly. To change the direction of the path a ribbon cable takes through the harness assembly, you can change the type of fold along with its alignment and direction.

Note: When changing folds, the sweep that represents the ribbon cable can fail. In this case, adjust work points using 3D Move/Rotate or twist control.
  1. Open a harness assembly that contains a ribbon cable with 1 or more folds.
  2. In the graphics window right-click the work point that represents the fold point, and select Edit Fold.

Alternatively, you can right-click the fold node in the browser and select Edit Fold.

  3. Make the changes you need using the directional arrow displayed in the graphics window to visualize the results:
    • Under Fold Type, click a button to change the type of fold.
    • Under Direction, click a button to change the direction.
    • Under Align, click the button representing the portion of the arrow to align to geometry; the shaft or the arrowhead. In the graphics window, select the geometry to use.

To delete a fold, right-click the fold point and select Delete Fold.
