Modify cables and wires

Once a cable is created in a harness assembly, you can change the cable wire's termination status. Move the cable wire to different pins by reterminating the cable wire ends. To change the termination status, you disconnect a terminated wire, or connect a spare wire. The route state, display status, and any occurrence level properties that were added to the cable remain unchanged.

Edit wires

  1. In the browser or graphics window, select the wire to connect or move, right-click, and then select Edit Wire.
  2. In the Edit Wire dialog box, click the pin to change (Pin 1 or Pin 2).
  3. Select the new pin in the graphics window.

To delete, right-click the wire, and then select Delete from the context menu.

  2. In the Edit Cable dialog box, click the pin to change (Pin 1 or Pin 2).
  3. Select the new pin in the graphics window.
  4. To terminate the connection of a cable, select Disconnect.

To delete, right-click the cable, and then select Delete from the context menu.

Replace wire occurrences

Once a wire is created in a harness assembly, you can replace the wire by changing the wire definition from one library wire to another.

  1. From the browser or graphics window, select the wire to change, right-click, and then select Edit Wire.
  2. Optionally, select a wire category from the list, and then select the new wire name from the Name list. The wires listed vary depending on the selected category.
  3. To view the properties for the created wire, click Properties.
  4. To redraw the wire using the new definition, click Apply.

    Color changes are updated automatically.

  5. If the Outer Diameter changed with the new wire definition, click Update on the the Quick Access toolbar to redraw the wire(s) using the new settings.
  6. Continue changing wire definitions as needed.

Reconnect wire pins

Wires may dangle when connectors or connector pins are deleted, connectors are replaced, or connector pins are renamed. Wires also dangle when the harness assembly is made adaptive in another top assembly causing the harness to lose all external connections. Use Reconnect Wire Pins to automatically reconnect these dangling wires based on the RefDes and pin number stored in the wire pin or a connector you select.

Note: If the RefDes information is missing, use Edit Wire to reconnect an individual wire.
  1. Open a part that contains dangling wires, and click Cable and Harness tab Create panel Reconnect Wire Pins .
  2. Indicate the wire pins to reconnect:
    • To reconnect all dangling wire pins at once, enable the Dangling Wire Pins check box.
    • To reconnect selected wire pins, disable the All Dangling Wire Pins check box, and then select the dangling wire pins in the browser or graphics window.
  3. Indicate the method to use to reconnect the wire pins:
    • To reconnect using stored RefDes information, enable the Connect Using RefDes check box.
    • To reconnect using a connector you select, disable the Connect Using RefDes check box, and then select the connector to use in the browser or graphics window.
