To apply edits by other designers to assemblies (Refresh command)

In a concurrent design environment, several designers can simultaneously edit components used in a single assembly.

When you open a file, Autodesk Inventor reads only a portion of the file from disk. Autodesk Inventor returns to the file, as needed, to read additional segments of data. When you save a file, the original file moves to the OldVersions folder and is renamed. Therefore, any Autodesk Inventor session that opens the file in the meantime continues to have access to the original file version from the OldVersions folder to read additional data.

To retrieve changes made by other designers to any component loaded in session, click File ManageRefresh. The following occurs:

  • The system reviews all components in the session, not only the active assembly, to determine which components must be refreshed.
  • If any component needing a refresh has unsaved edits, you have the option to cancel the refresh and use Save Copy As to save the edits to new files. If you select this option, each file opens in a new window. After saving, rerun the Refresh command.
Note: If the component needing the refresh has unsaved edits, you cannot save the edits without using Save Copy As because the file already has a later version.
  • After the refresh completes, some components may become unreferenced. If this occurs, the system loads each of these components into its own edit window.
