To Replace the Template File for a Content Center Family
Open and customize the current family template file. Then save the changes in an ipt file, and replace the original template file with the new file.
To open an existing template file, click File
Open
Open from Content Center.

In the Open from Content Center dialog box, locate the part family, select a family member, and click OK.
Save the part file to a location outside the Library folder so the part file can be modified.
Change the part as needed, and then, save the part.
Open the Content Center Editor and locate the family whose template you want to replace. From the Library View list, select the library where the edited family is saved.
Tip: To identify the library where a family is saved, right-click the family and select Family Properties. The library name is available in the Family Properties dialog box, General tab, in the Library field.Right-click the family and choose Replace family template.
In the Open dialog box, select the part file you modified, and click Open.
The part file is checked to determine whether it meets the criteria to become a new part family template. If the part file is correct, the part family template is replaced. If an error is found in part parameters or their mapping, the family template is not replaced to keep the family valid for placement.
Criteria for part family templates:
The internal document name of the original and new template file must be identical.
To replace the template of a family created by the Save Copy As command, open and edit its member file. Do not use a part member file of the parent family. It has a different internal name.
The category that is stored in the new template file must be identical with the category of the edited family.
