What's New in this Version

This topic lists all the additions and improvements incorporated in InfoWorks® ICM 2024.5 which were not available in previous versions.

Although there are no new features that require a database update to database version 2024.5 in order to access the feature, it is advisable to do so. It makes it easier for you to keep track of the various versions and ensures that any software patches are only applied to the applicable database versions.

Cloud capabilities

This release of InfoWorks ICM builds upon the cloud integration that started in version 2024.0. Learn more here.

Choose which type of simulation results to download from the cloud

When you now run or re-run simulations for a network in a cloud database, a new Download Cloud Results dialog is displayed. It lets you select what type of results, if any, you want to be automatically downloaded to your local results folder when the simulations are complete. You can choose if all the results to be downloaded should be full results (summary and time-varying) or summary results. Regardless of what option you choose, full results will be available in the cloud, allowing you, or others, to download them whenever it is convenient to do so.

Additional options for downloading results from the cloud

Simulation results can only be viewed if they have been downloaded from the cloud to your local results folder. Previously, if the results were not available locally, the only option to download them was to open the simulations and download results for each simulation separately. Downloading simulation results is now more flexible as you can:
  • Download results for several simulations at the same time.

If local results are not available for any of the simulations selected in the Explorer window, a single message is now displayed informing you how many results need to be downloaded and gives you the option to download them all. If you choose to download the results, the Download Cloud Results dialog is displayed so you can choose which type of results - Full (summary and time-varying) or Summary results only - should be downloaded for all the simulations.

  • Right-click on a single simulation in the Explorer window and choose the new Download full results or Download summary results option to download the applicable results from the cloud to your local results folder.
  • Download full results (summary and time-varying) for a simulation that currently only has summary results available locally. When you open a simulation with summary results, a message is displayed informing you of this, and you can use any of the following new items to download full results:
    • the (Download full results) button on the Replay toolbar
    • the Results replayDownload full results option in the Network menu
    • the Download full results option from the popup menu in the Explorer window

See Downloading Results for details.

Deleting results for cloud simulations

As simulation results may include full results or only summary results, two new deletion options for have been added to the popup menu in the Explorer window:

  • Delete all local results. Available for a cloud simulation with full results or summary results. Selecting this option permanently deletes all the associated local results files. Full results will still be available to download from the cloud.
  • Delete local non-summary results. Available for cloud simulations with full results. Selecting this option permanently deletes all results files except the time-varying results file and the status and log files, which are still are available locally. Full results will still be available to download from the cloud.
See Working with Database Items for details.

Downloading results using ICM Exchange

Results for cloud simulations can now be downloaded using ICM Exchange.

A new WSApplication.launch_sims_ex method is now available. This includes additional options, such as RunOn and DownloadSelection, that are not available with the existing WSApplication.launch_sims method.

In addition, the WSSimObject run_ex method has a new DownloadSelection key, which you can set to NO_RESULTS, SUMMARY_RESULTS or ALL_RESULTS (default).

See the Exchange document for details.

Increased values for Equivalent Manning's n

The limits for specifying a Equivalent Manning's n roughness value when using a RAFTS routing model for a runoff surface or a subcatchment have changed. Previously you could specify a value between 0.01 and 0.1 but this has now increased to between 0.001 and 2.0. Validation error messages will be displayed if you specify a value that is outside the new permitted range, and a warning will also be issued if the specified value is greater than the RAFTS recommended limit of 0.25 but below the maximum value of 2.0 permitted in ICM.

The Equivalent Manning's n value is used in the calculation of the storage delay coefficient for a subcatchment in order to develop a non-linear runoff hydrograph, which may be calculated on a subcatchment or runoff surface basis. Previously, PERN values were found by linear interpolation for Equivalent Manning's n values up to 0.1. For values greater than 0.1, they are now found by linear extrapolation. See the RAFTS Routing Model for details.
