Key Concepts

IWLive Pro Operator Client is a product building upon the InfoWorks WS Pro and InfoWater products from Autodesk.

IWLive Pro Operator Client is designed for use in the control room as an aid to predicting problem areas and assessing solutions to these problems. Uses of the product include:

  • Continuous monitoring of supply networks
  • Automatic prediction of likely problems based on forecast demand
  • Evaluation of possible solutions to real or anticipated problems
  • Planning and training in the control room
  • Devising schemes, for example to reduce financial and carbon costs of supply

IWLive Pro Operator Client displays a map of polygons representing the regions for which the control room is responsible. Clicking a polygon displays a detailed map of pipes, valves, pumps, reservoirs and other assets in the region.

How IWLive Pro Operator Client Works

IWLive Pro requires a collection of baseline models, representing each region of interest, that have been built and calibrated in InfoWorks WS Pro / InfoWater. A schedule of runs is created so that each baseline model is simulated every few hours. The model is updated automatically from live data so that each simulation begins with up to date reservoir levels and pump and valve status. Calendar and weather feeds are used to project anticipated demand in order to assess potential problems.

When a simulation is completed, results are processed and any warnings are displayed on the control room map. A highlighted polygon on the map indicates a prediction of problems in the next few hours, and a grid displays the time of onset of these problems.

The control room operator can then change the status of valves and pumps and run simulations in order to evaluate possible solutions to the problem.

How does IWLive Pro Operator Client interact with InfoWorks WS Pro

InfoWorks WS Pro is used to create and maintain the underlying models for IWLive Pro. A InfoWorks WS Pro baseline is used to set up a schedule for running simulations for a single model network in IWLive Pro. The baseline refers to a single default simulation. The baseline object encompasses the model network and associated data items, (such as control, demand and tariff data , live data and switch data), as well as a default simulation. Please refer to the InfoWorks WS Pro Help for further information.

In fact, there is an overlap of capabilities between InfoWorks WS Pro and the IWLive Pro Administrator Mode, in particular in the setup of properties for the Baseline object. All of the baseline configuration can be done in InfoWorks WS Pro but some settings can be set or amended in the IWLive Pro Administrator Mode:

  • Setup
    • Enabling of baselines for projection runs
    • Setting of run schedules
    • Setting of default themes and headline layers
  • Occasional maintenance
    • Edits to run schedules
    • Overriding of live data if telemetry is faulty
    • Protecting specific runs from deletion

Projection runs are run by the IWLive Pro Server. The results of the projection runs are assessed in IWLive Pro for any warnings that a potential problem is likely to occur in the network in the next few hours. Relevant results are immediately available to the operator. Issues can be investigated within the IWLive Pro Operator Mode, via incident and response runs or outside IWLive Pro.
