Using grids

Data is displayed in spreadsheet style grids in many places within the IWLive Pro Operator Client interface:

  • grid views on network object data
  • grids showing the properties of a single object
  • grids showing specific data or results
  • tabular display of results

Note: Some of the operations described below are unavailable for certain grid types.

Moving around the grid

To move between the cells in the grid:

  • Use the arrow keys to move one cell at a time in any direction.
  • Press Page Up or Page Down to move up or down one screenful at a time.
  • Press Tab or Shift+Tab to move right or left one cell.
  • Use the mouse to click a cell or click the scroll bars to display a different section of the grid.

Changing column width

  • To change the width of a column, drag the divider line on the right of the column header.

If this option is allowed, the cursor will change as shown on the image when over the column divider.

Changing the column width

Changing column order

On some grids, changing column order is allowed.

  • Select a column and drag it to a new position.

If the position is valid, the dividing line between columns where the dragged column will be inserted is displayed as a thick grey line.

If the position where you want to drop is invalid, the cursor will be displayed.

The image shows a valid drop position for the selected Velocity column.

Drag columns

Freezing columns

On some grids, columns can be frozen at the left side of the grid so that they are visible at all times.

  • Select one or more columns, right-click the header of one of those columns, then choose Freeze Columns.

The columns are moved to the left side of the grid, and marked with a thick line. When you scroll the columns sideways, the frozen columns do not move.

  • To unfreeze all frozen columns, right-click a column header and choose Unfreeze All Columns.

Selecting cells

To select a single cell, click it to make it the current cell.

To select a group of cells:

  • Drag the mouse pointer to mark a rectangular block of cells.
  • Click a cell, hold down the Shift key and click another cell to mark a block.
  • Hold down the Ctrl key while clicking several cells to select non-adjacent cells.
  • Hold down the Shift key and then use the arrow keys to select a block of cells.
  • Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the mouse pointer to select more than one block of cells.

To select a whole column or columns:

  • Click the column header to select a single column.
  • Press the left mouse button on the column header and drag the mouse with the left button held down to select a contiguous group of columns.
  • Click a column and then, with the Shift key held down, click another column to select a contiguous group of columns.
  • Click one or more columns with the Ctrl key held down to select non-contiguous columns.
  • You can deselect columns by holding the Ctrl key down and clicking a column that is already selected.

To select a whole row or rows:

  • Click the box on the left of the row.
  • Use any of the operations described above for columns.

To select the entire grid:

  • Click in the top left cell.

Grouping selected rows at the top of the grid

  1. Select groups of contiguous or non-contiguous rows.

Selected rows are represented by a green box in the left column of the grid.

  2. Choose Grid | Group network selections at top of grid.

Copying, pasting and deleting grid data

The standard Windows copy and paste functionality works as normal in the grid view, so you can copy and paste cells or entire rows of data. However, you are only copying the data that is visible in the grid.

  • To copy the contents of the current selected cells to the clipboard, right-click a cell and select Copy.

Some grids provide special functionality to enable data to be copied onto the clipboard in specific formats.

  • To paste data back into the grid, right-click a cell and select Paste.

Basic paste functionality only allows data to be pasted back into the current cell. Most grids provide special functionality for pasting blocks of data, but validity checking may be limited.

  • To delete the content of the currently selected cells, press the Delete key.

Pressing Ctrl+Z may restore cell content deleted unintentionally.

Displaying object properties

You can display the Properties window for a particular network object by double-clicking to the left of the row for that object. Alternatively, click to the left of the row for an object and select Properties from the context menu.

Autofiltering grid data

Data can be autofiltered in network grid view columns, allowing the display of rows of data based on the content of cells and conditions applied to them.

Data can only be arranged vertically. In other terms, filter options are applied to column data but not to rows. The autofilter functionality available in IWLive Pro Operator Client is based on the Microsoft Excel Autofilter and is accessible via the grid context menu and the Filter Options dialog (see below for details).

Filter context menu options

The following context menu options allow users to filter data in the corresponding grid:

Menu item

Description

Filter

Enabled on any grid cell and on column headers.

Selecting this option displays the Filter Options dialog where filters can be set.

Filter on current cell value

Enabled on any grid cell.

Selecting this option will set a single condition equals filter on the current cell value without displaying the Filter Options dialog. See Filtering on the current cell value.

Clear filter

Enabled on any grid cell in a column where a filter has been applied or on a filtered column header.

Selecting this option will remove any filter applied to the column. Headers of filtered columns are identified by a Filter sign.

Filtering data

To filter data in a grid:

  1. Right-click a grid cell or a column header and select Filter from the context menu or press Ctrl-L.

The Filter Options dialog is displayed.

Note: If the Filter menu item is invoked on a currently filtered column, the currently set filter conditions will appear by default in the Filter Options dialog.

  2. Select an operator in the top drop-down list.
  3. Either type in a value in the box to the right of the operator drop-down list or click the Down arrow button to select a value.
  4. If two conditions are required (optional):
    1. Set the radio buttons to the desired state (And or Or) .
    2. Repeat step 4 and 5 for the two boxes below the radio buttons.
  5. Click OK.

Once filters have been applied:

  • The header of a filtered column displays a filter symbol (Filter).
  • Thicker horizontal dividing lines are displayed where rows have been filtered on the grid left side.

Note: Filters are not automatically re-applied if cells are edited or new rows added to the grid. Filters can be re-applied by selecting the Filter menu item and clicking OK on the Filter Options dialog without changing any settings on this dialog.

Removing filters

To remove existing filters:

  1. Right-click a filtered column.
  2. Select Clear filter from the grid context menu or press Ctrl-U.

Filtering on the current cell value

To filter data on the current cell value:

  1. Right-click a cell in the grid view of interest.
  2. Select Filter on current cell value from the context menu.

This is a shortcut method of setting an equals operator filter using the current cell value as the value. The Filter Options dialog is not displayed.

Sorting grid data

There are several ways to sort grid data (mainly network objects but it can be other data) on the grids. Data in a single column or multiple columns can be sorted. Sorting can also be limited to selected rows.

Single column

To sort the rows in the grid according to the contents of a particular column:

  1. Select the column on which the grid is to be sorted.
  2. Right-click and select either Sort Ascending, Sort Descending or Sort by flag.

When carrying out subsequent sorting on single columns, the order of the previous sort is preserved where possible.

Multiple columns

There are two methods by which multiple columns can be sorted at the same time:

  • The Sort dialog is used to sort the grid by up to three columns in turn. Each selected field can be sorted in either ascending or descending order.
  • A selection of columns can be sorted by using the Sort on Selected Columns options from the grid popup menu. All columns must be sorted either by ascending or by descending order.

To sort the grid using the Sort dialog:

  1. Right-click in the grid and select Sort from the popup menu. This displays the Sort dialog.
  2. Choose up to three fields from the drop-down lists. IWLive Pro Operator Client will sort the grid on each of these fields in turn.
  3. For each selected field decide whether to sort in Ascending or Descending order.

To sort the grid in currently selected columns:

  1. Select the columns to be sorted.
  2. Right-click in the grid and select either Sort on Selected Columns Ascending or Sort on Selected Columns Descending.

Selected rows

To sort the data in a selection of rows only:

  1. Highlight the rows to be sorted in the grid.
  2. Right-click in the column containing the values by which the data is to be sorted and select either Sort Ascending (Selected Rows), Sort Descending (Selected Rows) or Sort by flag (selected rows).
