Working with window layouts

The configuration of the IWLive Pro workspace in the Operator mode, i.e. window location and size, is known as window layout.

About window layouts

There is a default layout for the Headlines page and a default layout for the Baseline page. Default layouts show only essential windows. These are:

The Operator mode will open on the default layout for the Headlines page and the default layout for the Baseline page when:

  • IWLive Pro is opened for the first time
  • The Reset toolbars and windows option of the Window menu has been invoked
  • IWLive Pro is opened for a new baseline

If IWLive Pro has already been opened and the Reopen previous option is enabled in the General page of the Options dialog, IWLive Pro will remember the windows that were open when the application was last closed and will reopen them on start-up. (No windows are open when the None option, as opposed to Reopen previous, is selected in the Options dialog).

When you move windows around in IWLive Pro Operator, or resize windows, the window layout is changed.

It is possible to save, load (= apply) and delete window layouts.

Layout types

Layout type mainly defines layout availability in relation to users and baselines and is specified by the user at layout creation time. Layouts can be:

  • private - Private layouts are layouts created by the user for their own use. Users of the same database / baseline will not see private layouts unless they are private to them, and will not be able to use them.
  • public - Public layouts can be created by any user, whether or not they are administrators, and are by definition available to all users. Note that users can only delete public layouts that they have created.
  • global - Global layouts are baseline window layouts that can be applied to all the baselines in the database. (Non-global layouts are available only to the baseline they have been created for).
  • Tip:

private and public are mutually exclusive whereas it is possible to have global private layouts (i.e. available for all the baselines in the database, but to the user only) and global public layouts (i.e. available for all the baselines in the database, and to all users)

These settings are configured in the Window Layout - Save As dialog.

Creating and saving layouts

  1. Ensure the IWLive Pro Operator workspace is as you want it for the current page.
  2. Select Window | Window Layout.

The Window Layout dialog is displayed.

  3. Click the Create button.

The Window Layout - Save As dialog is displayed.

  4. Type in a name for the window layout.
  5. If the layout is to remain private to the current user, leave the Layout is public checkbox unticked. To make it a public layout, i.e. a layout available to all users, tick the checkbox.

Public layouts are available to all database users whereas private layouts are private to the user who created them. See Layout types for more information.

  6. To make a baseline layout global, enable the Layout is global option (not available for headline window layouts), otherwise leave the checkbox unticked.
  7. To save the changes, click OK .

The new layout is available for selection in the Window Layout dialog.

  8. To close the dialog, click the Close button.

The layout is available in the Select Layout drop-down list of the Window toolbar.

Applying / loading a saved layout

To load a saved layout from the Window toolbar:

  1. Ensure that the desired page (Headlines or Baseline) is the current page.
  2. Select the desired layout in the Select Layout drop-down list of the Window toolbar.

The workspace changes immediately to reflect the selected layout.

  1. Select Window | Window layout.

The Window Layout dialog is displayed.

  2. In the list, select the layout(s) to load.
  3. Click the Load button.

The workspace changes immediately to reflect the selected layout.

Resetting layouts to default

To reset all layouts (Headlines page and Baseline page layouts) to default, select Window | Reset Toolbars and Windows.

The default layout for the Headlines page and the default layout for the Baseline page will be used the next time IWLive Pro is restarted.

Deleting layouts

  1. Select Window | Window layout.

The Window Layout dialog is displayed.

  2. Select the layout(s) to delete in the list of layouts.
  3. Click the Delete button.

Successfully deleted layouts no longer appear in the list of layouts.

  5. To close the Window Layout dialog, click the Close button.
