Creating a new database

The first time you use InfoWorks WS Pro, you will need to create a database.

If you are using an Autodesk licence, you can create on-premise and cloud databases. If you have an Innovyze licence, you can create on-premise databases but not cloud databases.

To create a new cloud database:

  1. Select File | Open | Open/Create database. The Open/Create dialog is displayed.

  2. Select the Cloud option. The Open Cloud Database dialog opens.
  3. Click New to display the New Database dialog. In this dialog:
    1. Select the Hub from the drop-down list.
    2. Specify the name for the new database in the Name field.
    3. From the Database version drop-down list, choose which version of the database is to be used for the new database.
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Open Cloud Database dialog, click OK.

To create a new workgroup database on an existing hosted server:

Note: Do not keep an on-premise database in a Local Folder. You run a risk of corrupting your data because Local Folder and Remote Root files may be saved in the same folder, and these files can potentially have identical names.
  1. Select File | Open | Open/Create database. The Open/Create dialog is displayed.
  2. Select the Workgroup option. The Open Workgroup Database dialog opens.
  3. If there is not already a connection to the server, connect to the server.
  4. In the Database section, click New.
  5. In the New Database dialog:
    • If you want to assign the new database to a group, select an existing group or type in the name for a new group.
    • Enter a name for the new database.
    • From the Database version drop-down list, choose which version of the database is to be used for the new workgroup database.

    • Click OK.
  6. In the Open Workgroup Database dialog, click OK.

To create a new standalone database:

  1. Select File | Open | Open/Create database. The Open/Create dialog is displayed.

  2. Select the Standalone option. The Open Standalone Database dialog opens.
  3. Click New.
  4. In the Save As dialog, choose a location and name for the new standalone database.
  5. From the Database version drop-down list, choose which version of the database is to be used for the new workgroup database.
  6. Click Save.
  7. In the Open Standalone Database dialog, click OK.
