Object Properties window

This window provides a way of looking at all the data for a single network object in a structured way. It uses property sheets to encompass all the properties of the object, presented in a tree view.

The object properties window can be displayed by:

Clicking the (Properties) icon on the Tools toolbar, then selecting an object on the GeoPlan.
Selecting Window Object properties window. In this case, the window may initially be blank: it will be populated when you click the (Properties) icon and select an object on the GeoPlan.
On the correct grid, double-clicking the row containing the database object.
Right-clicking the correct grid and selecting Properties from the context menu.

Description

Title bar

Shows the name of the window.

Droptree

Collapsed

The droptree displays the current object identifier in the following format:

object type (object sub-type) object ID : network name

where

object type is the type of object (for example, pipe)

object sub-type applies only to some object types

object ID is the object primary key, value separated by a full stop when the primary key comprises multiple values

network name is the name of the network to which the object belongs

Expanded

The droptree is expanded by clicking the Dropdown button.

When the droptree is expanded, a tree of all open objects is displayed, grouped by network name, object type and object ID.

Selecting an object on the tree will load it into the Object Properties window.

Toolbar

Backward	Go backwards, to the previous item in the Object Properties window droptree.
Forward	Go forward, to the next item in the droptree.
Navigate	Available options are: Backward - go backwards to the previous item in the Object Properties window droptree Forward - go forwards to the next item in the droptree History - displays a list of most recent items navigated to Upstream to - displays a list of objects connected immediately upstream of the displayed object Show all in a grid - displays all connected upstream and downstream objects and all related objects in a grid view
Find in GeoPlan	Selects and zooms to the object whose details are displayed on the Object Properties window.
Commit history	Opens the Commit History dialog, which shows the history of changes to a version controlled object that have been committed to the database.
Show Results	Toggles between the network object property view and the results property view. Used with the Show simulation results properties when available option on the Object Properties Window Settings dialog.
Change type	Opens the Change Object Type dialog, through which you can select a new object type for the object currently shown in the Object Properties window.
Remove control	Removes the control data from a network.
Configuration	Shows a menu with the following items and sub-items. Layout Open - Displays the Open Layout Table dialog, where the layouts for all the network objects can be accessed and a particular layout selected for display on the Object Properties window. Save - Saves the current layout, including group names, group order, property order, node button state (that is, expanded/collapsed). Edit - Displays the layout for the current object type in the Object Properties window, ready for editing. Fields (properties) can then be moved by dragging them to new positions. Groups can be moved if they are not shown collapsed. Also, groups can be added, renamed, or deleted, using the options on the context menu. Reset - Resets the layout for the selected object layout type to the default layout. Reset all - Resets all layouts for all object layout types to default layouts. Default layouts are system default layouts (that is, defaults that are applied when you first get the software). It is then possible to overwrite these default with user-defined layouts. Selecting Reset or Reset all will restore the system default layouts. Update all from database - Overwrites the currently used layout settings with the database layout settings. This option may be available only to database owners. Push all to the database - Overwrites the database layout settings with the user local layout settings. This option should be used in conjunction with the Update all from database option to standardise layouts across all users of a workgroup database. This option may be available only to database owners. Options Displays the Object Properties Window Settings dialog which allows you to customise the look and feel of the Object Properties window.
Help	Shows a menu for accessing the Help.

Caption bar

The caption bar is the bar between the toolbar and the object properties. It gives a brief description of the object. It contains a Close (Close) icon that closes the Object Properties window for the current object.

Part way along the caption bar is a divider line. This can be dragged to adjust the width of the field name display (for example, to allow long data field names to be displayed fully).

Property editor

Shows the property names and, in the adjacent grid, the associated values. The grid includes a column for data flags.

The values can be changed if they are for properties of an object on a checked out GeoPlan.

Values are changed in one or more of the following ways:

by double-clicking them
by choosing from a drop-down list of selectable values shown when you click or double-click them
on a dialog opened by selecting the adjacent (Edit) button
by ticking or clearing a checkbox

Tooltips

When some areas of the window are hovered over with the mouse pointer, a tooltip with some information about the item being hovered over is displayed. These tooltips are not editable or customizable.

Context menu

When you right-click a group, a property, a value, an error message, or a flag, a context menu is displayed, allowing you to perform a variety of tasks.

Close	Closes the Object Properties window for the current object.
Close all	Closes all instances of the Object Properties window.
Refresh	Refreshes the current Object Properties window view.
Copy object	Copies the selected object in a format that can be used in CSV or Microsoft Excel files. Copy object settings are configurable on the Object Properties Window Settings dialog.
Copy	Copies the selected property value.
Show groups	Toggles between showing properties grouped under headings and showing ungrouped properties. If property groups are currently being shown, the option has a tick in front of it. If you have specified that groups should be hidden (using the Object Properties Window Settings dialog ), this option will not be visible on the context menu.
Open all groups	Shows all properties under all headings, or simply shows all properties.
Close all groups	Shows just the headings, or simply shows no properties.
Move row up	Moves selected row up.
Move row down	Moves selected row down.
Add group	Adds a new group. Enabled only if groups are shown and in Layout view (that is, when viewing the layout for a particular object type).
Delete group	Deletes the selected group. Enabled only if groups are shown and in Layout view (that is, when viewing the layout for a particular object type).
Rename group	Allows renaming of the selected group. Enabled only if groups are shown and in Layout view (that is, when viewing the layout for a particular object type).
