About the Industry Models Tutorial

Industry models contain objects that have data properties and connectivity intelligence.

The lessons in this tutorial take you through the entire workflow of creating an industry model drawing. Since your workflow may require sharing the results with those who have no access to industry models, you will save the results out as a plain AutoCAD file. You will do the following:

  • Use a template to create an industry model drawing.
  • Explore the Maintenance workspace, which is optimized for use with industry model drawings.
  • Add background data using Data Connect. This data is not part of the industry model schema, but provides real-world context for your designs.
  • Import data from various sources into the industry model schema. This data becomes part of the industry model and has connectivity intelligence.
  • Create new industry model features using the Maintenance workspace.
  • Check the new features for connectivity.
  • Save the resulting information to a plain AutoCAD file.
  • Open the AutoCAD file and change the display of layers as you would any AutoCAD layer.
