Bifrost Fluids Plug-in for Maya

The Bifrost Fluids plug-in for Maya is the older system for creating liquid and smoke simulations. It includes the older BOSS (Bifrost Ocean Simulation System) for ocean surfaces. These use a menu-based interface for creating effects, unlike the newer Bifrost graph.

The Bifrost Fluids plug-in is included with the Bifrost graph plug-in for compatibility with older scenes and projects, but you can still use it to create realistic liquid, ocean, and smoke simulations. However, consider using the Bifrost graph to benefit from greater customization, improved features, and more flexible workflows for liquid and smoke effects — see Simulate dynamic effects in the Bifrost graph.

Topics in this section

  • Bifrost Fluids

Bifrost Fluids is a simulation system for high-quality liquid and fluid effects using a FLIP (fluid implicit particle) solver. You can generate liquid from emitters and have it fall under gravity, interact with colliders to direct the flow and create splashes, and use fields to create jets and other effects.

  • BOSS — Bifrost Ocean Simulation System

The Bifrost Ocean Simulation System lets you create realistic ocean surfaces with waves, ripples, and wakes.
