The Modeling menu set is a set of Modeling-specific menus added after the Maya default menus (File, Edit, Create, Select, Modify, Display, and Windows).
Access the menu set from the drop-down menu, or press F2 to switch to the Modeling menu set.
A note about the logic of the Maya Modeling menus to help you remember which options are in which menu:
- Mesh menu: Has actions that operate on an entire object. Combining, separating, all the ways you can remesh an entire object, transferring attributes between objects, and so on.
- Edit Mesh: Contains actions that are all on components of a mesh. Extruding faces/edges, merging vertices, extracting individual faces, spinning an edge.
- Mesh Tools: Lets you enter all the modeling tools. (Maya always has one tool active at a time.)
As opposed to everything in the Mesh and Edit Mesh menus, which are actions, (you make a selection then run the command to operate on whatever you have selected), the Mesh Tools menu lets you enter a specific tool, do some interactive operation on a mesh, then commit the operation/run the command to actually make the mesh edit. This menu includes tools like Quad Draw, Multi-Cut, Insert Edge Loop, which are all tools you activate, then use the interactive preview that guides you through the operation.
