Troubleshooting sharing cuts to animate in context with Maya

Common issues

Issue Error message Reason and solution Related to
Unable to load media into the Cut Slider Open the Plug-in Manager and load Flow.py to use this feature Flow is installed but not turned on in Maya.

1. In Maya, go to Windows > Settings/Preferences > Plug-in Manager.

2. Navigate to Flow.py and check Load (and optionally Auto load).		 Maya
Sign in to Autodesk Identity to use the Cut Slider a. The artist isn't currently signed into Autodesk Identity, or

b. the Flow desktop service is missing or disabled on the user's machine, or

c. the user is not properly assigned to a project in Flow Production Tracking.

To resolve this issue:

a. Sign into Autodesk Identity on the artist's machine.

b. Close Maya, then install the Flow desktop service on the artist's machine (you may need an administrator to do this for you) and enable it.

c. Ensure the artist has appropriate permissions to the project in Flow Production Tracking.		 Maya

Flow Production Tracking
A newer version of Flow exists. Contact your administrator to update Update the installed version of the Flow desktop service so it's compatible with Flow.

1. Close Maya.

2. Update the Flow desktop service.

3. Start Maya.		 Flow desktop service
The version Maya installed is not compatible with Flow. The installed version of Maya needs to be updated to work with Flow.

1. Close Maya.

2. Uninstall Maya.

3. Install Maya 2026 or newer.

4. Start Maya.		 Maya
Error: Playblast length does not match current shot length There is a mismatch in the cut data between Maya and Flow Production Tracking.

Unsupported media format

Something went wrong while downloading media. Right-click the shot to retry.		 Some cuts shared from Flow Production Tracking are missing transcoded VP8 video files.

  1. Identify in Maya the Version with missing media, and note its version name.
  2. Open Flow Production Tracking, and open the project that contains the Version.
  3. Go into the Version page.
  4. Set the display to List View, and then click + to display more columns.
  5. Add the Uploaded Movie column.
  6. At the top-right of the Version page, click Search Versions…, enter the Version name, and then type Enter.
  7. With the page showing only the problematic Version, hover over the Uploaded Movie field, and click the drop-box icon at the top-right.
  8. Select Replace with Uploaded File.
  9. In the Choose a File to Upload dialog, click Browse.
  10. Browse to find the movie clip that failed to transcode on the problematic Version, and then click Open.
  11. Click Upload. This replaces the media of the Version and should fix the error/.

The View More button in the Flow Media Browser doesn't load more shots Occasionally, the Flow Media Browser can fail to automatically refresh.

Project missing from the Media Browser If you are unable to find your project in the Flow Media Browser, open Flow Production Tracking and make sure that Animate in context is enabled for that project and that the current user has permission to access the project. You will need administrator access to the project to do this. Flow Production Tracking
Unable to download shots If shots won't download after retrying:

1. Make sure that your network connection is stable.

2. Check that the Flow Capture Connect app hasn't crashed or been closed accidentally. If it has, close Maya before restarting the app, then open Maya again.		 Maya

Can't see downloaded shots in Viewport Check to make sure that the current camera matches the one you set in the Flow Media Browser when you first loaded the cut. Maya
Local Python packages and dependencies Local python packages and dependencies can create conflicts with the ones required by the Flow plug-in resulting in an error. To prevent this, move the python site packages to a path not found in the PYTHONPATH environment variable. This will ensure that Maya uses the dependencies shipped with the plug-in. Maya
Flow desktop service fails to run If the Flow desktop service won't run, it may be that your System Config file is corrupt. Be sure to follow the proper naming conventions outlined in the System Config and User Config. Read the logs for troubleshooting issues. Flow desktop service
Cut Slider doesn't show a version from Flow Production Tracking At least one version must exist in the Flow Production Tracking cut and timecodes must match in Flow Production Tracking and Maya before media can be loaded into the Cut Slider. Check Flow Production Tracking and make sure that a version exists in the cut.

A version must also be linked to a task to be visible in Maya.

Tip: Playback the cut in Flow Production Tracking and if the version is missing, then it won’t appear in Maya's Cut Slider.		 Flow Production Tracking
Changing a Version Task doesn't update the shared Cut Editing a Task doesn't force a refresh of the shared Cut.

Edit the Cut directly to have the changes shared. Moving a Cut Item's order and then resetting it refreshes the shared Cut.		 Flow Production Tracking
