For a description of the Stencil utility, see Stencil.
To map a Stencil to an object
- In a material’s Attribute Editor, map the Stencil utility to the Color attribute.
- In the Stencil’s Attribute Editor, map a 2D texture to the Image attribute.
- Assign the material to the object and adjust the Stencil’s attributes as necessary.Tip:
IPR-render to view the result as you adjust attributes.
To use the Key Masking attribute
- Turn Key Masking on. Since the Color Key attribute’s default color is black as well as the Stencil’s Default Color, Maya masks out only the areas containing the most black.
- Change the Color Key color in the Color Chooser. In the following, Maya masks out any color containing red or pink and replaces it with the Stencil’s Color BalanceDefault Color.Note:
When bump mapping Stencil textures, you must make manual, explicit connections. Bump map the texture, then manually connect the bumpValue to the stencil outAlpha.
