Unreal Link Asset Selection window

Asset Selection Window

The Unreal Link Asset Selection window appears when you click the Link button beside an object in the Unreal Live Link Editor. This is where you can directly connect a Maya object to an Unreal sequence to stream animation.

Unreal skeletons / actors

This section differs depending on whether you are linking a character or a light / camera / mesh. In both cases, this is where you select an Unreal object to link to the selected Maya object.

Search assets

Use this field to search for assets by full or partial name strings. You can also filter the results by asset type using the button to the right of the field.

Create (light, camera, or mesh only)

Instead of linking to an existing object in the Unreal project, you can create a new one by entering a path in the textfield at the top, then selecting an Unreal object type and clicking the + button. The object will then be added to the desired directory within the current Unreal project, and appear in the Object List for you to select.

Refresh

Press this to renew the list of available objects from the current Unreal project. Note that the refresh process may take longer for more complex scenes.

Object List

Select an object from this list to link to the selected Maya object. When linking characters, it is especially important to make sure that the skeleton you select derives from the selected Maya skeleton (see Exporting to Unreal)

Target anim / level sequences

This is where you select an Unreal animation sequence (for characters) or level sequence (for lights / cameras / meshes) to link to the selected Maya object.

Search sequences

Use this field to search for sequences by full or partial name strings.

Instead of linking to an existing sequence in the Unreal project, you can create a new one by entering a path in the textfield, then clicking the + button. The sequence will then be added to the desired directory within the current Unreal project, and appear in the Sequence List for you to select.

Once you've selected an object and a sequence, you can then click the Link button to begin streaming animation data to Unreal. While the link is being established, the link icon next to the object's name in the Unreal Livelink Editor will turn yellow. When it is successful, it will then turn green.
