Maya 2027 introduces workflow improvements and usability refinements to the Sequencer, with updates to shot editing, organization tools, grouping behavior, and playblast output.

Refined Trim and Time Scale Workflow
Shot trimming and time scaling now use edge-based interaction controls.
- Drag the edge of a shot to trim its in or out point.
- Enable Time Scale Mode in the Sequencer toolbar to scale a shot by dragging its edge.
- Cursor feedback indicates whether you are trimming or time scaling.
This interaction provides clearer visual feedback and more precise control when editing shot timing.
Expanded shot organization tools
Sequencer now provides additional visual tools to organize shots:
- Shot Labels
-
- Create labels with custom names and colors.
- Assign a label to a shot.
- Manage labels using the Label Manager.
- Label names appear as tooltips when hovering over a shot.
- Shot Colors
-
- Assign custom display colors to shots.
- Choose from preset swatches or define custom colors.
- Custom Shot Thumbnails
-
- Load a custom thumbnail image for any shot.
- Thumbnails appear in the upper-left corner of the shot.
- Remove thumbnails at any time.
These tools improve clarity when working with complex sequences.
Updated shot group behavior
Shot grouping behavior has been refined:
- Groups automatically dissolve when they contain only a single shot.
- Grouped shots can maintain independent start frames.
- The active shot within a group can be changed using the context menu.
These updates simplify group management and reduce unnecessary group nodes.
Improved Playblast workflow
Playblast controls are available from the dedicated Playblast menu.
- Playblast selected shots, all shots on a track, or the entire sequence.
- Re-Playblast Selected Shot regenerates an existing clip.
- Image planes created during playblast use the camera's Resolution Gate settings.
- The <Scene> keyword can be used in file name templates.
- Unsupported filename characters are automatically replaced with underscores.
These improvements provide more consistent output behavior and clearer control over playblast results.
Dedicated Sequencer Workspace
A new Sequencer workspace provides streamlined access to the Sequencer editor and related panels, improving discoverability and layout efficiency.
