Removing your user preferences can be a good first step in troubleshooting issues that can occur in Mudbox. When you remove user settings, either by renaming or deleting the directory, Mudbox creates new preferences the next time you run the application. This refreshes tools and options to their default values, and often provides a quick fix for any new, unexpected tool behavior, or other issues running Mudbox.
Before removing your preferences, check if you have saved any data in the affected directories, and create any backups that you require. (For example, if you have saved images in the \data\Stamps or \data\Stencils directories.)
To remove all user settings
- Locate the following directory (or directories):
Windows
- <drive>:\My Documents\Mudbox\ <version> \
Mac OS X
- /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Mudbox/ <version> /
- /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Mudbox <version> /
Linux
- /home/<username>/Mudbox/ <version> /
- Either delete the directory, or rename it if you want to keep a copy (for example as /2013_backup/).
Renaming the directory gives you the option of restoring your preferences if this process does not fix the issue.
The next time you start Mudbox, default settings are recreated in the same location.
