Solver Enhancements for 2024
The following enhancements to the analysis solvers provide you with better solutions and improved accuracy.
Improved Warpage Accuracy for Dual Domain Analyses
The calculation of residual stress influences the accuracy of warpage predictions. The thickness of an element affects its residual stress prediction. In the new release, the calculated thickness of edge elements is equal to that of the neighboring wall sections. Previously, their calculated thickness was less than that of the neighboring wall sections. This change improves the accuracy of Dual Domain warp predictions for some cases and minimizes the differences in warpage predictions between Midplane and Dual Domain analyses.
Negative Sink Marks Estimate
For flow analyses of 3D mesh type, the prediction of negative sink marks is now possible. A negative sink mark will appear as a slight bump on the surface of the molded part. These can occur opposite a negative rib. A negative rib is a location where the part thickness is less than that of the adjacent part wall sections. Like regular sink marks, a negative sink mark on an aesthetic surface will detract from the quality of the part's appearance.
Molding Window and Automatic Injection Time
The default parameters for a Molding Window analysis now match the recommendations in our training materials. These updated parameters will apply when you create a study file. The new parameters favor shorter injection times which are more consistent with industry practice.
The parameters used by filling analyses to determine an automatic injection time have changed to match the new default Molding Window parameters. This usually results in the analysis selecting a shorter and more realistic injection time.
Calculation of Composite Properties
We have improved the accuracy of the thermal expansion coefficients calculation for composite materials. This improvement specifically applies to composites with anisotropic matrix properties, such as fiber-filled LCP composite materials, and significantly affects warp prediction.
Solvers Prevent Windows From Sleeping
The Moldflow solvers on Windows now disable the idle timer to prevent the computer from entering sleep mode, allowing uninterrupted calculation. For more information, refer to Solver Sleep Behavior.
