Other shape (for cross-sectional shape (3D))

This dialog is used to describe a cross-sectional shape (3D) consisting of a repeating pattern of holes which are neither square nor round. Four inputs are needed:

  • Hole type
  • Part volume fraction
  • Flow resistance factor
  • Shape factor

Hole type specifies whether the hole is a through hole or a blind hole. For blind holes, the depth of the hole must be specified.

Part volume fraction is the polymer fraction of the element volume in the grill region.

Flow resistance factor is the factor which can be used to change the flow resistance locally. If the value is greater than 1, the flow resistance will be higher at that location than at a regular (non-grill) region. This factor can be determined heuristically for each case.

Shape factor can be used to account for the change of local cooling rate. If the value is greater than 1, the local region will cool faster than a regular (non-grill) region.
