Injection delay for multi-barrel injection molding

You can delay the injection start for both the master barrel and the sub-barrels. By default all barrels are set to No delay.

This task is supported for Multiple barrel thermoplastics injection molding, and assumes you have set up the master barrel and sub-barrel(s). For the master barrel, click Process settings to access the Delay timer. For the sub barrels, click (Boundary Conditions tab > Multiple Barrel panel > Set Locations), then click Edit associated with the appropriate sub-barrel controller.

Important: At least one barrel must start be set to No delay, but it need not be the master barrel.

To identify the reference node

An injection delay is set relative to another barrel location.

  1. In the Layers panel, make visible the layer with the mesh nodes.
  2. Decide which barrel location is the reference location for the delay you are considering.
  3. Zoom in on the injection location node and select it, so that it changes color.
  4. Open the Geometry tab, and find the node ID in the Selection panel.
  5. Record the node ID, for use when you set the injection delay.
  6. If you plan to set a delay on multiple controllers, using different reference barrel locations, consider identifying each of the node IDs before you proceed to the next step.

To set the injection delay

Ensure you have recorded the node ID for each reference barrel injection node.

  1. In the Process Settings Wizard if you are setting a delay on the master barrel, or in the Multiple barrel controller dialog for each of the sub-barrels, select the delay control from the Delay timer drop-down menu.
  2. Click Set, associated with the Delay timer.
  3. Enter a time in seconds, if your delay is based on time, or a distance in mm if your delay is based on ram position, then enter the Reference injection node that you identified earlier.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog(s).
