Adding new material data for use in Moldflow and Fusion
There are two main ways users can add new materials into the Material Database for use in Moldflow and Fusion:
- Order a material testing from a lab proficient in conducting Moldflow material testing
- Use the data fitting service
Order a material testing from a lab proficient in conducting Moldflow material testing
If material data currently does not exist for your material, it's properties will need to be measured by a third-party laboratory. The laboratory should:
- use the most appropriate methods to measure and characterize the material for the purpose of injection molding simulation
- be able to test the material either confidentially (where the udb will only be shared with your for use in Moldflow) or non-confidentially (where the udb will be available in the Moldflow and Fusion 360 public Material Database)
- supply you with a test report and udb file

Use the data fitting service provided by Autodesk Moldflow Datafitting (AMDF) product
In order for the data fitting service to be used, the full set of raw experimental data (Viscosity, Thermal Conductivity, Specific Heat, PVT, Mechanical etc.) for the material needs to be tested by yourself or other laboratories. Once all the data is ready, proceed to follow one of the following options:
- Use AMDF to generate a udb file by yourself. For more information on using AMDF, please refer to Getting Started with Data Fitting. If you want the udb to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion 360 public Material Database then submit the udb to us via datafittingMoldFlow@autodesk.com.
- If the dataset is to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion 360 public Material Database (non-confidential), then the Autodesk Moldflow Materials team can assist with the datafitting service free of charge.
- If the dataset is for your use only and not to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion 360 public Material Database (confidential), then a third-party datafitting service will be required, which is typically done for a fee.
