About Optimization Utility

Autodesk® Optimization Utility for Netfabb® (referred to as Optimization Utility for brevity) improves 3D mesh parts under mechanical loads with two different approaches: lattice optimization and topology optimization.

  • Topology optimization iteratively lightens part geometry by taking material away.
  • Lattice optimization iteratively strengthens or lightens beams in a lattice constructs.

The output of Optimization Utility is an optimised form of your 3D parts that is lighter in weight but maintains the performance characteristics you expect e.g. being stiff in some areas and flexible in others.

Features at a glance

  • Import and displaying multiple 3D parts from a number of file formats
  • Creat lattices of different topologies and sizes for imported 3D parts
  • Creat skins of varying thickness for imported 3D parts
  • Define load cases with boundary conditions for 3D parts to optimise
  • Define variable density lattices and skins using thickness kernels
  • Verify the performance of 3D components consisting of lattices and skins based on defined boundary conditions
  • Manually alter the density of lattices and skins in your 3D components to improve their performance based on defined boundary conditions and requirements
  • Automatically optimize the current lattice and skin
  • Export an optimized component consisting of lattices, skins and solids for your imported 3D parts.
  • Automatically optimize the topology of defined solid parts using the Topology Optimization Engine of Autodesk® Nastran
  • Generate a high quality surface from the optimized part-topology
  • Save optimization projects consisting of your imported 3D parts and defined lattice, skin, boundary condition, thickness kernel and optimization properties.

Availability

Optimization Utility is part of the installation of Autodesk® Netfabb® Ultimate and is not available separately.
