About latticing

Latticing refers to the result as well as the procedure of converting a solid volume into a structure of repeating patterns ("unit cell topologies") of beams, reducing weight without compromising performance.

Latticing in Netfabb

Latticing in Netfabb is available through several avenues. Depending on your requirements for latticing, one may be better suited to the task than the others:

Quick and simple lattice work

Intermediate-level control over latticing steps

Expert-level features and complexity

Lattice Assistant

  • Compact and streamlined tool for hollowing, lattice generation, and merging, as well as generation of perforation and matching plugs for drainage

Lattice Commander

  • Create and modify individual lattices and skins for your project

3S

  • Netfabb's established modules to define, generate, and customize lattices and lattice patterns, or unit cell topologies.
  • Uses a fixed selection of beam-and-junction unit cell topologies
  • Uses a fixed selection of beam-and-junction unit cell topologies
  • Comes with an example selection of beam-and-junction and mesh-based unit cell topologies
  • Contains an editor to define custom beam-and-junction and mesh-based topologies
  • Beam profile, the cross-sectional shape, is freely definable, and includes shape compensation that accounts for the individual angling of beams generated from profiles
  • Consumes mesh models
  • Returns a mesh to the platform
  • Consumes mesh models, bar supports, and lattice generation results from 3S
  • Outputs meshes and tet-meshes for FEA
  • Consumes mesh models
  • Outputs meshes, slices, structure information for Ansys and Abaqus analysis, and beam-and-junction data to Lattice Commander

Optimization Utility and Lattice Topology Utility

  • Generates lattices and skins, and simulates and optimizes them against static loads
  • Simulates and optimizes solid shapes against static loads
  • Comes with a fixed selection of beam-and-junction unit cell topologies
  • Lattice Topology Utility defines custom beam-and-junction topologies
  • Consumes mesh files
  • Outputs mesh as well as beam-and-junction data to Lattice Commander

Latticing in general is only included in Netfabb Premium and Ultimate.
