To set up a variable placeholder

Make variables known to the document so that they can be displayed in their proper places

Note: These steps are performed in LibreOffice Writer, not in Netfabb, and make use of the Fields dialog as explained in To create a report template.

This is the "Set variable step".

Variable definitions are made by placing them as invisible fields anywhere out of the way in the document, even in header or footer.

For the purpose of this walk-through, they are simply placed in the first line of the document.

  1. In the Type list, select Set variable.
  2. In the Format list, select a number format such as -1,234.57.
  3. In the Name and the Value field type NETFABB_PLATFORM_VOLUME, in all-capital letters.
  4. Check to enable Invisible.
  5. Click in the main document window and place the cursor in the first line.
  6. Click on the Fields dialog again.
  7. Click Insert.
