Tutorial A7: Define Properties and Mesh

To define material properties

  1. In the Model tree, right-click Materials > New.
  2. In the dialog, click Select Material. The Material DB dialog will show some available material libraries.
  3. Click on Load Database.
  4. Browse to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor Nastran 2025\In-CAD\Materials, and open the ADSK_materials.nasmat file. The material tree is populated with the available materials.
  5. Under the Steel category, select AISI Carbon Steel 1025 Hot Rolled. In the Material dialog, in the Structural area, ensure that the G field is blank.
  6. Click OK in the Material DB dialog and in the Material dialog to create the material.

To define physical properties

  1. In the Model tree, under Idealizations, delete any existing Solid materials, then right-click Solids > New.
  2. In the Idealizations dialog, make the following settings:
    • Name: Solid Property
    • Type: Solid Elements
    • Material: AISI Carbon Steel 1025 Hot Rolled
  3. Click OK to create the property.

To mesh the model

  1. Right-click Mesh Model > Edit.
  2. Set Element Size to 0.035, Element Order to Linear, deselect Continuous Meshing, then click OK to generate the mesh.
