If your installation modifies the registry, it is important to document those changes for users. Each application must document the information listed below, which is helpful for installing the application and for resolving application conflicts. This information should be contained in the application directory as well as in user manuals and online Help.
The following modifications must be documented in an installation guide or readme file:
- Modifications made to the system registry or other system configuration files
- Directories created in the installation
- Any operating system environment variables used in the installation
- A summary of system registry entries (the root node of a tree entirely owned by your application will suffice)
