Display mirror to a 2nd Screen on iOS

You will need PIX iOS Display Mirroring enabled on your PIX account in order to mirror PIX from your iOS device to another screen.

This permission is project specific, and while many PIX projects have this feature enabled for all users by default, you may need Gatekeeper approval to be enabled with this feature on your project.

What is iOS Display Mirroring?

When PIX iOS Display Mirroring is enabled, you can display your PIX for iOS app on a secondary screen using Apple's Screen Mirroring feature, while controlling playback and navigation on your iOS device.

This feature can be utilized in one of two ways:

  • Connecting wirelessly to an Apple TV
  • Connecting via an A/V adapter and HDMI cable to a TV or external monitor

If you have a PIX streaming watermark set up for you on the project, your watermark is carried over when viewing mirrored content.

Display Mirror to an Apple TV

  1. Connect your iOS device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV.
  2. Open Control Center (iPhone X + - swipe down from the upper right corner of your screen).
  3. Tap the Screen Mirroring icon.
  4. Select your Apple TV from the list.
  5. If a passcode appears on your TV, enter the code into the Airplay Code field on your iOS device.

While you are mirroring, you will see Apple's Airplay icon in the top right of your Status bar.

If you are mirroring before you log into a project, you will see this message on your secondary screen.

You must log in to a project that has Display Mirroring enabled for your account in order to use the feature.

Once you choose a mirror enabled project, you will see your PIX for iOS interface on the second screen.

Playback Messaging on your iOS Viewer

While you are mirroring you will still be able to navigate and utilize playback controls on your iOS device, however, there will be no media visible in the viewer.

Instead, you will see this message. You cannot playback content on the iOS device and the secondary screen simultaneously.

View Full Screen

By default, you will view full screen when mirroring content. You have the option to display the PIX toolbars by toggling the green rectangle in the lower-left corner of the viewer window.

If you do not see the rectangle, tap on the three dots in the bottom right corner of the screen to expose it.

Stop Mirroring

To stop mirroring, open your Screen Mirroring menu and select Stop Mirroring.

Disabled for Mirroring

As iOS Display Mirroring is a project-specific feature, you may be enabled on some projects that do not support the feature for your account.

If you select a project where you do not have the feature enabled, you will receive this message.

A Message Regarding Apple's Airplay enabled devices

Apple has not published nor publicly confirmed the presence of strong encryption between Airplay enabled devices.

Because PIX cannot confirm the presence of integrity of any potential encryption between Apple devices using Airplay, we cannot endorse using Airplay as part of PIX's secure playback stream, and we do not endorse streaming content from the PIX for iOS app to an Airplay enabled device.

We do however recognize that users may wish to use Airplay devices, such as the Apple TV, with PIX and assume the risk and maintaining the security of their Airplay-enabled network. Please be aware that when viewing PIX content via this feature, it is only as secure as your network.
