Subclipping on PIX 2 for macOS

What is a subclip?

A subclip is a new clip you create by trimming a section of an existing clip in PIX.

You must be enabled for subclipping on the project, and you must have access to the source clip via the Files section in order to create a subclip in PIX.

If you do not see the option available to you, please contact your project's Gatekeeper.

Create a subclip

To create a subclip:

  1. Open a clip in the viewer.
  2. Click the IN and OUT marker tool.
  3. Drag the markers to your desired start and endpoints.
  4. You can also use the I and O keyboard shortcuts to mark IN and OUT points while playing back a clip.
  5. Go to the Edit menu and select Make Subclip.

You will see an alert to confirm PIX is creating the new subclip, along with the location of the new clip.

To view your new subclip, navigate to the folder containing the original clip. Your subclip will be in the same folder as its source clip.

Once there, you will see the placeholder for your new subclip with a description reading "subclip of..." If you have edit access to the folder where the subclip resides, you can change this description, or remove it altogether.

If it is grayed out, that means it is still processing. Once it's viewable, it will turn white.

You will also receive an email notification when the subclip is ready to view.
