Prepare Non-Video Media for PIX

PIX recommends preparing images, documents, and audio files to the specifications below. Following these recommendations will ensure that your media loads quickly and will be streamable across all PIX platforms.

If you are looking for video preparation specs, those recommendations can be found on this help page: Prepare Video Media for PIX.

Prepare Images

We recommend creating images in the following formats:

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
  • BMP (.bmp)
  • TIFF (.tif, .tiff)
  • PNG (.png)
  • GIF (.gif)

We recommend keeping image sizes below 5000 x 5000 pixels.

There is a size limit of 500MB or 100 megapixels (ex: 10,000 x 10,000). Images that exceed this limit cannot be viewed in PIX, are not watermarked, and do not have preview thumbnails.

We also recommend using RGB color for your images. However, Gray, Index, and Lab are also supported. If you post images with CMYK color, it may affect the color of the overlaying watermark.

Notes regarding image support on PIX:

  • We do not yet support viewing JPEG-2000 images (.jp2, .jpf), raw camera images, or layered and vector images like Photoshop (.psd) and Adobe Illustrator (.ai). You can post these files for others to download, but these files will not display in PIX.
  • While PIX can accept files up to this size, images over 2K are scaled to 2K resolution for viewing within the PIX application.

Prepare Documents

PIX Supports the viewing of PDFs only. In order to ensure your PDF is viewable in PIX, please be sure to check the following:

  • The PDF is not layered and does not contain fillable fields.
  • The PDF is not password protected or locked in any way.
  • The PDF is completely flattened (preferably in the native software that has created it). If a PDF is not flattened properly, this will potentially cause it to be non-viewable in PIX.

Other document types can be uploaded to PIX in a zip file and distributed for download if necessary.

Prepare Audio Files

We recommend creating AAC audio files. We also support WAV, AIFF, BWF, SND, MP3, MP4, M4A, and AU files.

5.1 and 7.1 Audio Support in PIX

For specifications surrounding what we currently support for 5.1 and 7.1 audio in PIX, please review this help page: Prepare Video Media for PIX.

Use PIX as a File Transfer System

If you need to distribute assets that are not supported for viewing in PIX, you can upload zipped content to PIX and use our Share for Download feature to transfer files securely within the system.

Here are examples of content that we recommend zipping for transfer in PIX:

  • Excel document
  • Word document
  • ALE
  • EDL
  • Multi-layered, Fillable, or Password Protected PDFs
  • Application installers (DMG or EXE)
