To select a single object, click on it in the graphics window. The object is highlighted with its key points visible as graphical handles.
When several objects are beneath the cursor and clicking selects the wrong one, click again without moving the mouse to select the next object in the database at that position. Repeat until the one you want is selected.
To select multiple objects:
- Hold down the Shift key, and click all the objects you want to work with. When more than one object is selected, objects are highlighted, but the key point handles are not displayed.
Note: You can use the Shift key in combination with box selection.
- To add or remove objects from a selection, press and hold the
Ctrl key while clicking or dragging the mouse to:
- deselect objects that are currently selected.
- select objects that are currently deselected.
- Select an option from the Home tab > Selection panel:
- Select > Partial box or Whole box — to use box selection.
- Filter — to select objects by setting a selection filter.
- Information — to view information about the selected objects in the Selection Information dialog.
- Restore — to replace the current selection of items with the previous selection.
- Next — to select the object that was created next in the model. This is useful for selecting the correct object when multiple objects intersect in a model.
Note: If the Show next selection option is selected on the Mouse Options dialog, a dialog is displayed containing buttons for each selectable intersecting object in the model. Click the buttons to select the corresponding intersecting object.
- Clear — to clear the current selection.
Note: To deselect all objects, you can also click in a space away from any objects.
- By Name — to select an object by its name using the Add Item To Selection dialog.
- All Wireframes — to select all the wireframe objects in a model.
- All Surfaces — to select all the surfaces in a model.
Tip: Press Ctrl+Shift+Alt and then click a surface to select all surfaces of the same colour, representing the same material.
- All Solids — to select all the solids in a model.
- All Surfaces & Solids — to select all the solids and surfaces in a model.
- All Components — to select all the components and instances of sub-assemblies in a model.
- All Meshes — to select all the meshes in a model.
- All Clouds — to select all clouds in a model.
- All Workplanes — to select all the workplanes in a model.
- All — to select all the objects in a model.
You can also select objects using the Intelligent Cursor.
