Smooth Normals dialog

Use the Smooth Normals dialog to specify the degree of smoothing and improve the appearance of the triangle mesh on imported triangle files.

Minimum inter-facet angle to be smoothed — To control the appearance of the mesh, enter a new value or use the slider to reduce and increase the smoothness of the facets.

The two examples below show the difference in the appearance of the facets:

  • Imported .dmt file with no smoothing:

  • Imported .dmt file with smoothing applied.

    The appearance of the model is improved by reducing faceting while preserving the intentional sharp edges:

The examples below show the effects of using extreme values.

  • When the inter-facet angle is too small, many facets are not smoothed:

  • When the inter-facet angle is too large, many intentional sharp edges are smoothed:

Smooth shade — Select this option to apply smooth shading. You can also select and deselect this option by right-clicking the model and selecting Smooth Shade from the Mesh context menu.

OK — Saves your changes and closes the dialog.
