Matching a lateral to a curve

Use the Match Curve option to match the shape of a lateral surface curve to a projected wireframe curve.

  1. Select the surface.
  2. Click Surface Tools tab > Modify panel > Edit Curves > Match Curve.
  3. Use the options on the Match Lateral dialog to select the curves:

    • Select surface curve — Select this option and then select a surface curve you want to match to a projected wireframe curve.
    • Select curve to match — Select this option and then select a projected wireframe curve you want to match the surface curve to.

For example, select the objects shown below:

    • Extend Outside Surface — If the projection of the curve lies outside the surface, select this option to extend the points on the lateral to match the nearest points on the curve:

If this option is deselected, only part of the lateral matches the curve:

    • Preview — Displays the new shape of the lateral in the surface. The curve is projected along the axis normal to the principal plane:

You can change your wireframe object, surface curve, settings on the dialog, or principal plane until you are satisfied with the previewed surface.

  4. Click Apply to save the surface.
  5. Click Cancel to close the dialog. Any unapplied changes are discarded.
