Using Extraction Templates

When you first enter the Feature Extraction tools, the Feature Template browser displays. Each template type has its own tab.

You can select a template for placement, or manage templates and schemas from this browser.

Point Templates

Point templates are individual schema instances that are created and edited in the Manage Feature Schema dialog. Click  to create and edit point schemas available for placement in the point cloud. See Manage Feature Schema to learn more.

Linear Templates

Linear templates contain both linear geometry and feature schema. The template is used when automatically extracting linear features from the cloud data.

The following methods create and edit the line of the template.

  • Create. Click the Create button to start a new template from a default configuration. This opens a cross section from which to adjust the template line. Add a template title and click Save when complete.

  • Edit. Right-click a linear template and select Edit to modify the template line. Adjust the template title if needed and click Save when complete.

  • Duplicate. Right-click a linear template and select Duplicate to create a new template based on an existing template.

  • Delete. Right-click a linear template and select Delete to remove the template from the Feature Template browser

You can also add to the Feature Template browser when modifying a cross section. Click  to save a new configuration as an extraction template. See Define the Template for the Linear Feature for more information.

3D Templates

Linear templates contain both geometry and feature schema. The template is used for exporting 3D geometry such as ADA ramps and driveway entrances from point cloud data.

The following methods create and edit the 3D template.

  • Freeform. Click the Freeform button to start a new custom 3D feature and sketch the boundaries of 3D data. When complete, click  on the toolbar. See the Sketch a Freeform 3D Object section in Establish the 3D Object and Its Location Note: this does not create a template. For more information on Freeform sketching, To create a 3D Feature template, see the Save your 3D Object as a Template section in Establish the 3D Object and Its Location.
  • Delete. Right-click a 3D template and select Delete to remove the template from the Feature Template browser.

Click  to define schema for point feature templates, linear feature point and tag elements, and 3D feature edge elements.

Importing and Exporting Feature Template Schema

Click  and select from the following:

  • Import Feature Templates
  • Import Feature Templates

Follow the onscreen dialogs to continue either operation.
