Zoom to Origin

A new “Zoom to Origin” button has been added to the Update Origin Tool, allowing you to instantly focus the camera on the origin point. This is especially helpful when working with large point clouds or after navigating away from the origin.

What It Does

  • Centers the origin (gimbal) in the middle of the canvas.
  • Works with both small and large coordinates.
  • Helps you quickly re-orient after making changes or navigating the scene.

How to Use

  1. Open the Update Origin Tool.
  2. Make any changes to position or rotation if needed.
  3. Click the “Zoom to Origin” button.
  4. The view will immediately center on the gimbal.

Good to Know

  • Works even with large or negative coordinates.
  • Remains functional after tool switching, ViewCube interactions, or long sessions.
  • ViewCube and mouse navigation work seamlessly post-zoom.
  • If invalid inputs are present, zoom is safely ignored to avoid disruptions.
  • Compatible with all major modes and reset/orientation scenarios.
  • If camera is too close/far from the gimbal, or if gimbal is located behind the camera - it zooms to default distance keeping the same camera angle.
  • If camera is located between the minimal and maximal distance to gimbal - it just moves gimbal to the center of the screen keeping the same camera angle and distance.

Summary

This feature adds a "Zoom to Origin" button within the Update Origin Tool, allowing you to instantly center the view on the current origin point (gimbal). It ensures precise camera positioning — even for large datasets or extreme coordinates — improving usability and navigation. The camera smoothly centers the origin in the canvas without affecting ViewCube or other navigation tools. This streamlines workflows where the origin may move out of view due to manual entry or navigation.
