Issue:
Why did Autodesk acquire Delcam?
The acquisition of Delcam was a key milestone in Autodesk’s expansion into manufacturing and fabrication beyond its roots in design. The addition of Delcam to the Autodesk portfolio was an important step in Autodesk’s path toward delivering a Product Innovation Platform bringing together a set of connected design, manufacturing, and IoT tools in a single data-centered platform.
What will Autodesk do with the Delcam technology?
Autodesk will be releasing Autodesk® 2017 software offerings based on the Delcam product portfolio to the market in August 2016, followed by continuous service pack updates.
How does this integration support Autodesk's mission to deliver products and services that enable the Future of Making Things?
For more than 30 years, Autodesk has been developing and providing tools to help our customers design. The culmination of any design process is the creation or fabrication stage. For example, building plans are constructed, movies are produced and products are manufactured. Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is core to moving any product design from the digital to physical world.
