How to disable beam cutback in Revit

Technical Support

Issue:

When joining structural beam elements they automatically define an end to the element. This is often not as expected by the user and a re-adjusting of the element has to be done manually afterwards which can be unproductive for longer terms.

Causes:

In structural beam families there are reference planes defined for beam cutbacks.

Solution:

To adjust the beam joins, you have several options:

  1. To adjust beam joins with the Beam/Coloumn Joins button in the Ribbon/Geometry field
  2. To adjust Start extension/ End extension of the Beam element
  3. To disable the automatic Beam cutback function of the element by editing the family of the beam

In Revit 2017+  one may set Cutback values = 0 before starting to draw beams (on the window shown below).
It will be remembered for ALL beams created later, so it is even possible to save this in template if such modification is made on empty model.
