Issue:
Autodesk will deprecate access to Revit Cloud Models for versions of Autodesk Revit older than the current release plus five previous versions on an annual basis.
This change has raised several common questions:
- Can cloud models still be upgraded using Revit Cloud Upgrade after they are deprecated?
- Is it possible to download cloud models and continue working on them locally?
- Will deprecated cloud models remain accessible via web platforms BIM 360 / Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud, ACC)?
- How can users determine the Revit version associated with cloud-hosted projects?
- When would this change be initiated?
- What is the timeline for this change for other previous Revit versions?
Solution:
Change is expected to be implemented on November 17, 2026, after which cloud models cannot be created or opened in versions older than Revit 2022. To prepare for this upcoming change, upgrade your cloud models to Revit 2022 or newer using the Revit Cloud Model Upgrade feature.
With each new Revit release, the oldest Revit version that previously included access to Revit Cloud Models will be deprecated. For example, once Revit 2028 is released, Revit Cloud Models will no longer be accessible using Revit 2022.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Details important to all Revit Cloud Models subscribers
1. What is happening?
Autodesk is implementing a new access policy for Revit Cloud Models. Starting November 17, 2026, Revit Cloud Models functionality will no longer be available in Revit versions older than the current version plus five previous versions.
Once this policy is in effect, deprecated Revit versions will no longer support cloud collaboration or access to Revit Cloud Models. However, local desktop capabilities will remain unaffected.
To continue using cloud collaboration and accessing your Revit Cloud Models, we recommend upgrading to a version of Revit that includes access to Revit Cloud Models (Revit 2022 or newer as of Revit 2027 release). You can also choose to download your cloud models to continue working in the same Revit version locally.
2. Why is this happening?
Autodesk is modernizing our Revit Cloud Models infrastructure to deliver a more performant, and reliable experience. This change is driven by several factors:
- Legacy Infrastructure Limitations: Older Revit versions rely on outdated systems that are no longer compatible with the latest cloud platform technologies. Maintaining these legacy systems could pose increased security risks.
- Operational Efficiency: Including access to Revit Cloud Models in fewer versions allows us to streamline operations and focus on innovation rather than sustaining outdated technology.
- Customer Experience: By concentrating on newer versions, customers gain access to the latest features, performance improvements, and a smoother overall experience.
This decision also aligns Revit Cloud Models with Autodesk’s Previous Version Policy.
3. Is there a tool to help me upgrade my cloud models?
Yes. You can upgrade your cloud models to a version of Revit that includes access to Revit Cloud Models (Revit 2022 or later as of Revit 2027 release) using Autodesk’s Revit Cloud Model Upgrade feature.
Additional guidance on upgrading Revit Cloud Models to prepare for the upcoming deprecation can be found here.
4. Do I need to upgrade all my cloud models?
No. You should only upgrade active cloud models that require access to cloud collaboration functionality.
5. What if I need to continue working on my cloud models, but I do not want to upgrade?
If you choose not to upgrade your cloud models to a version of Revit that includes access to Revit Cloud Models, you can download the models and continue working in the same Revit version locally, without cloud functionality.
What you can do:
- Download your Revit Cloud Models to a local machine or network drive.
- Open the model in the Revit desktop application using the same version it was originally saved in.
- Work offline, using the same Revit version without access to cloud functionality.
You’ll retain full access to your project data, but cloud collaboration features will no longer be available in versions of Revit that do not include access to Revit Cloud Models once this policy takes effect.
6. If I don’t upgrade now, can I upgrade my cloud models in the future?
Yes. Cloud models can be upgraded from any previous Revit version (including deprecated versions) to a version of Revit that includes access to Revit Cloud Models.
7. What is the timeline for this change?
The change will take effect November 17, 2026. After the change, you will no longer be able to create new Revit Cloud Models or open existing Revit Cloud Models in Revit 2021 or older.
Future Revit Releases
With each new Revit release, the oldest Revit version that previously included access to Revit Cloud Models will be deprecated. For example, once Revit 2028 is released, Revit Cloud Models will no longer be accessible using Revit 2022.
8. How do I contact Customer Support if I need help or have additional questions?
If you need support throughout the process of upgrading your Revit Cloud Models, you can utilize your existing support process or visit this site.
